If you want to have a leisure time while enjoy the scenic view of Yamagata, I highly recommend Mogami river boat cruise. It will go stream down the Mogami river for about 1 hour. The total distance is 12 km. In autumn you can see the color changing trees of the surrounding nature.

On the old days the river was the main road to Sakata city. During the trip the boatman/woman will sing the folk song for you. It is about the life of the old boatman who have to stream down the river and miss his family. You can even ask him to sang it korean and english version.
