Some old storehouses are located in Masuda, in Akita. They were used to keep rice, furniture and precious things. Most were owned by rich merchant families. Nowadays, some of them are used as an exhibition. They keep the temperature cool in summer-time and warm in winter.

Most of storehouses only have one gate, but one of the storehouses we visited had 2 gates. In the case of fire, the doors closed tightly and protected what was stored inside. Imagine how one person can push 500 kg door each. Of course, it's difficult to move, but somehow they could do it.

I highly recommend visiting the storehouse are of Masuda. Come and see the structure and interior, and marvel at how they have stayed this way for a long time...
